Festival season is upon us once again. That means: a years worth of saving going on tickets, the juggling act of planning an attempt to see all the bands and artists you want to see, digging out wellies that you pretty much only use for this one occasion, hunting down someone who is willing to drive and finally; a chance to show off some of your best and most outrageous festival outfits.

Vintage clothing is a festival favourite, and for good reason. Patterns, different materials, embroidery, clashing colours and layering to the extreme is something that vintage clothing always has you covered on. Here are some of the coolest outfits to build around 4 key vintage pieces for festival season (with just a hint of practicality because hey, we gotta say it: stay safe).

Levi's cut off 501 denim shorts are a festival staple, I think we can all agree on that. The way of t-shirts and jumpers is always enticing but matching the shorts with a 60s boho look, cotton embroidered shirt with a folky, colourful waistcoat gives your festival outfit an old school cool, and with a statement layer like this waistcoat all you need is a couple more shirts to pop underneath.

If you're going to take a tee with you to a festival make it something that can bring a pop of colour to any outfit. This bright blue Nike Air tee is the perfect pick, complementary to oranges, pinks and purples. Throw in a pair of light tartan shorts (with pockets), a rucksack for all those important bits and bobs: festival phone, hand sanitizer, dry shampoo and all.

Outfits that translate from day to evening are important, our top tip? Layers are just the best. Here we suggest a cord shirt and a zip up fleece combo.

A windbreaker is not only a smart choice for festival packing but vintage 80s/90s windbreakers come in a plethora of colours to rival any style over substance jacket choice. Pair it with a thin pattern shirt and a pair of easy going straight leg jeans like these Lee beauties.

Coordination has no place in our festival book. Of course there is a line (stripes and tartan) but pattern on pattern is usually a sure winner for us. A fleece in the guise of a shirt is a great staple to take you from day time wrapped around your waist, to evening waiting for the next act to come on stage. Layer your fleece on top of a pattern shirt and a sports tee, a bandana to keep that unwashed hair out of your face and you are sorted from sunrise to sunset.
